May has always felt like a month of celebrating endings and beginnings. I guess partly because it is the last month of school, and then summer vacation begins. I must admit I still love summer vacation. I loved the freedom of the summers because I would go out and do fun stuff with my kids. Sometimes it would be a day trip to random places in Oklahoma, like the Cherokee jail and the Blue Whale. With my last child graduating, I guess this will be my last summer break.
Next week, the Annual Conference of the Oklahoma United Methodist Church will be meeting in Oklahoma City. It is sort of a celebration. We will be celebrating those who are being ordained and commissioned, as well as those ending long careers through retirement. I will be out on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Thursday through Saturday of next week, Sue Coker and I will be attending the Oklahoma Annual Conference.
Next Wednesday night, we will host a group of kids who are finally out for the summer and about to embark on an adventure- the Boston Avenue Youth Choir will be performing at 7 pm on May 27th. We will be feeding the kids hot dogs and chips afterward. Please invite family and friends to hear this choir perform before they head on tour in Tennessee. I guarantee you will be pleased.
Last, in June, we will be doing a sermon series called "Road Trip." I love road trips. Be sure to join us as we travel. Speaking of road trips, Amy will be on vacation the first week of June, and I will be out of the pulpit the first Sunday of June.
And really, finally- this Sunday, May 24th, we will be lunching together at 1843. Please let Kerri W. know if you plan to attend.
Shalom,
Pastor Stacy
