We are coming towards the end of Holy Week. I hope you have taken some time to reflect on the meaning of this week. On Wednesday, I preached at the Broken Arrow Indian Mission Church. It was an honor to be a part of their Holy Week services. That day, I reminded everyone that sometimes it is tempting to skip over the week and rush to Easter. However, Christ had to die on the cross, and he knew this. Judas had to do what he had to do in order to fulfill Christ's mission here on earth. So we finish the week observing Maundy Thursday- remembering Christ's final meal with his disciples. On Friday, we will observe Christ's death with a Good Friday service at Porter UMC at 6 pm. Saturday is a morning day. Then, on Sunday, we will celebrate at 10:45 am. After the service, there will be an easter egg hunt for the children.
The photo you see is of the Garden of Gethsemane. After the meal with the disciples, Christ went here to pray. Knowing he was facing death, he prayed not my will but thine. How often do we pray not my will but yours.
I hope you will join us tonight in Porter for our Good Friday service, a remembrance of Christ's death. It is a service of light and darkness.
Last, I want to lift up the family of Dennis Hodges. He was welcomed home by God last week. Funeral services will be held at the church this Saturday, April 4th, at 1 pm.
Shalom,
Pastor Stacy
