Last Sunday, we remembered our baptisms. Some of you have told me it was nice to remember that moment when you became part of Christ's holy family. This week, we will be looking at the sacrament of communion and the United Methodist beliefs and practices. To me, this is one of the most meaningful sacraments that we participate in as Christians. Last Saturday, I was the on-call chaplain at St. John Medical Center. I received a request from a patient to visit a chaplain. I went to the patient's room. He chatted with me about the importance of his faith, then asked if I could give him communion. The patient explained that holy communion reminded him of Christ's sacrifice for him and that, when he felt down, he liked to take communion to remember Christ's love for him.
I loved this man's view of communion. Often, it becomes a ritual we perform every month without much thought because it is what we do. This Sunday, we will take communion. I hope you will give a few minutes to reflect on why we take communion and what it means to you as a follower of Christ.
Shalaom,
Pastor Stacy
