I have spent this week with my two younger daughters in Colorado. We spent time with our college daughter in Gunnison. Cami and Claire did some skiing. Then we went to Grand Junction, Colorado, to visit Colorado Mesa University with Claire. We went from the plains of Oklahoma to the mountains of Colorado to the canyons of Western Colorado. The landscape is breathtaking. I have enjoyed seeing the sunset on the mountains and standing in awe of the canyons and formations. Every time I am in nature, I am always in awe of God and nature. The canyon at Colorado National Monuments amazes me, and I work to imagine how water carved it and the early native people who inhabited the landscape. Nature speaks to my soul. At one point, staring down the canyon, I stopped and just took in the silence. The silence allows my soul to rest. I realized that the same God who created this beauty also created me. When I look at mountains and canyon walls, I feel so small and insignificant. I am amazed that the same God who created this great beauty also created me. My soul not only finds rest, but I feel grateful that the God who creates this landscape loves and cares for me- such a tiny part of our world. Where does your soul find rest? What speaks to your soul? What reminds you that you are God’s most important creation?
I want to thank everyone who kept things running at the church and especially thank Bethany Boyd for filling the pulpit for me. I am grateful to those who allowed me to take the week to spend with my 2 daughters on what is likely our last family spring break.
