Well, I am a day late in getting out the Pastor's Blog.
I have spent this week planning a funeral for a member of the Haskell UMC. The church did not receive a new pastor and was down to just her, so she began attending Porter UMC- where I met her. I officiated at her funeral, but I was also tasked by the DS with performing the official deconsecration of Haskell UMC. Yes, official closing of the church. It was a sad morning, not because of the funeral. I actually enjoy officiating funerals. I enjoy remembering and celebrating God's people and the lives they lived. What was difficult was closing a church. There were people in tears, and many were sad to say goodbye to their faith home. A nephew of the deceased told me this was his church. Despite growing up in Norman and attending church there-- this was his church. It was his family church.
I was reflecting on how important our faith family is to us. The people who love us, nurture us, cry with us, and celebrate with us. It is amazing how much a building and the people become a part of who we are. I hope Coweta FUMC becomes a part of your life, your family, and is YOUR church home.
Shalom,
Pastor Stacy
